 Dr. R. Padmakumar is a Professor in Cardiology and head of the Unit in the Department of Cardiology, Kasturba Hospital, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, India. He has 2 decades of experience in clinical cardiology and has been involved in cardiac rehabilitation studies since 2011.

 Dr. Padmakumar completed his Cardiology training at the prestigious Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Science & Technology, Trivandrum and has since then worked as an interventional cardiologist with an interest in intervention and echocardiography. He is actively involved in various collaborative research projects funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research, Govt. of India and industry sponsored clinical trials. He is a recognized PhD guide at MAHE and has successfully guided and mentored candidates in cardiac rehabilitation and non-invasive cardiology. His early years of research were focused on genetic and echocardiographic studies in clinical cardiology. Over the years, he has continued to work in these areas and has expanded into preventive cardiology, more specifically cardiac rehabilitation focused on heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. 

 Dr. Padmakumar’s vast research and clinical expertise and knowledge in management patients with acute coronary syndrome and heart failure brings to the ACROSS project the knowledge of an experienced cardiologist and interventionalist, with experience n cardiac rehabilitation. He will provide oversight to the clinical aspects of the study and will work with the team of investigators and collaborators to ensure smooth running of the project.
