Dr. Mithila Faruque is working as an academician (Assistant Professor and Head) as well as a researcher in the Department of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD), Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS). As an academician she supervises 10-12 postgraduate thesis students each year. She was awarded fellowship of ‘Next Generation Public Health Experts Project, NGPHEP, BRAC Institute of Global Health & James P Grant School of Public Health, December, 2013 to November, 2014. She developed a PEN module for NCD prevention and control for 'Strengthening of NCD intervention at primary care level' supported by NCDC of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOH&FW) and technical assistance by World Health Organization (WHO). She has vast experience of consultancy at both national and international health research programs. Like, she is involved as Consultant in ‘Capacity Building of Nursing Services Phase 2’ funded by JICA, Consultant in ‘Workload Staffing Needs Assessment (WISN) for public sector healthcare facilities at district and below levels of services’ funded by USAID and technical assistance by MaMoni Health Systems Strengthening Project of Save The Children. She acted as Associate Consultant in the development of PIP and operational plan of NCD of 4th HNPSDP. She was also involved as consultant in 'Updating Policy of Grant Allocation for Organizations under 2705 code of Non-development Budget of MOHFW' funded by UK aid and technical assistance by MOH&FW. She had experience of different eminence research grants as PI and Co-Investigator in the field of ‘Strengthening surveillance of Cardiovascular Disease, Type-2 Diabetes and their risk factors in Bangladesh’ funded by National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) UK through Imperial College London Bangladesh from November 2018 – May 2022. She is involved as PI of ‘Strengthening of primary health care system on prevention and control of hypertension and diabetes mellitus’ funded by NCDC Program of DGHS, MOH&FW. Dr. Mithila has enormous experience and excellent skills of training and workshop management for capacity development. For example, she was served as Coordinator of a training program of 2600 Govt. staff on ‘Management of Major NCDs for Health Service Providers e.g. Nurses and other Para-health Professionals’ funded by NCDC Program of DGHS, MOH&FW, The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Also served as the Trainer of the WHO PEN training package on ‘Prevention & management of NCDs for the primary level health care providers in Bangladesh’ supported by WHO and facilitated a training on ‘Accelerating People-centered NCD Service Delivery in Primary Health Care’ on 2021, organized by WHO-SEARO. She also facilitated another WHO supported TOT workshop on ‘Workload Indicators of Staffing Need (WISN)’ in Colombo from 26-29 November 2018. She is involved in many other capacity building activities like she is operating a certificate course on ‘Epidemiology of NCDs, Risk factors & its Preventive Strategies’ in collaboration with Centre for International Health, University of Munich, Germany. She is the professional member of few organizations like ISH, IEA, EFI, OWSD, PHAB. She has published a very good number of peer review articles.
