Nusrat is a Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Research for Global Mental Health at the University of Manchester and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist for the Early Intervention Services at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. Professor Husain has a strong focus on research, particularly focusing on Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry which led him to establish the Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry Research Group in 2012. Prof Husain’s work in Pakistan, Canada and Kenya complements University and NHS strategies, which emphasis translational research and international partnerships. Professor Husain has had a keen interest in addressing the huge treatment gap in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs). His internationally recognized work addressing inequalities in, and improving access to, mental healthcare, for diverse ethnic minorities and other marginalized communities in LAMICs, has had impact not only in those countries but has become increasingly important for the optimum development of services in high income countries.
