Dr. Abraham Samuel Babu is a physiotherapist with about 15 years of experience in cardiac rehabilitation. He is an Emerging Leader (2019 Cohort) from the Salim Yusuf’s World Heart Federation Emerging Leaders program and the European Association of Preventive Cardiology Young Ambassador to India.
He has developed low cost exercise based protocols for acute coronary syndromes and has initiated programs for exercise based cardiac rehabilitation for acute coronary syndrome, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension and was part of the National guideline for providing treatment algorithms.
He is actively involved with the International Council for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (ICCPR) and has been a part of various key projects on advocacy and cardiac rehabilitation globally. He recently reported the state of Cardiac rehabilitation in India from the ICCPR global survey (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32489801/) and was part of a team that summarized the state of cardiac rehabilitation in India a few years back (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24607020/). His work has focused on the delivery of cardiac rehabilitation through home-based models and has recently been working with pulmonary hypertension (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31280830/) and recently proposed a technologically driven model to facilitate use of cardiac rehabilitation during this pandemic (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32344000/). His work has been funded by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, USA and the Indian Council of Medical Research, Govt. of India. He is working with other investigators from India on cardiac rehabilitation projects as well.
His work and experience in cardiac rehabilitation, home-based and low cost models will help the ACROSS project in developing and implementing relevant interventions to the project. He will contribute to the overall execution of the study and will coordinate with other team members and partners for a smooth running of the project.
